World Coffee Research (WCR) is a non-profit research program founded by the global coffee industry, dedicated to growing, protecting, and improving the availability of quality coffee. Simultaneously. the aim is to sustainably improve the living conditions of coffee farmers at the source. The recognition that, with increasing demand, coffee cultivation can only become a profitable and sustainable livelihood in the long term if the innovative power within the coffee sector increases while respecting the regenerative capacity of natural resources, was the driving force behind the establishment of WCR.
Today, WCR manages research and training activities in over 27 nations worldwide, in a network of more than 92 partners and 34 team members in twelve countries. PROBAT is the first roasting machine manufacturer to support WCR's research work and has been doing so since 2012. The company is among other things currently funding a cooperative project between WCR, the Specialty Coffee Association and the UC Davis Coffee Center, which is investigating the influence of different environments on the sensory profile of different coffee varieties.
